Transition

Transition Program

Our Transition Program is designed to assist students to orientate themselves within the college and answer any questions they may have about secondary school.

  • Grade 6 students are given the opportunity to meet some of their future classmates and develop early friendships that they carry over to the following year.
  • We include Year 5 students from our local primary schools to ease transition to secondary school. Students who may need additional support to move on to secondary will be given further opportunities to familiarise themselves with the school and its facilities.
  • Transition provides staff with the opportunity to meet and get to know students and identify any educational, social or emotional needs
  • Students from the local primary schools visit the college and undertake supported classroom activities and experience real life scenarios for secondary college, such as understanding timetables and using lockers.
  • A close connection with the primary schools is maintained and the Year 6 teachers work with our teacher to assist their move.
  • During the transition program students will explore the science laboratories, wood technologies workshops, art studios and sports gymnasium.

A Typical School Day

All students begin each day in their House. At the start of each day, they will meet with their Home Group with other students from their Year level.

Timetable

4 periods per day, 72 minute periods.

The Year 7 and 8 curriculum consists of core subjects, plus a rotation of specialist subjects that reflect the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum.

The core subjects are English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, and French with a rotation through The Arts (Performance and Visual), and Technologies (Design & Technologies and Digital Technologies). The ARC program runs across year levels for one session each week, offering students an opportunity to develop social and personal capabilities.

Students access their timetable on Compass and are able to see specialist activities such as instrumental music, excursions and additional programs, as well as assessment due dates and change of classroom details.
