SOSE Overview |
|
Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) encompasses three strands: Geography, History and Economy and Society.
All students in Years 7 to 10 undertake SOSE. Students in Years 7 –9 study SOSE for the whole year while Year 10 students choose semester length units.
VCE units in History, Geography, Legal and Business subjects are offered. Elective Enrichment Units offered at Year 9 include varied topics along a SOSE thematic approach. One is School Community Involvement Program (SCIP) where students experience voluntary work with various community agencies like the Beechworth and Yackandandah Primary Schools, preschools, the aged care unit, Meals on Wheels and the Opportunity Shop.
The courses aim to develop skills in research, creative and critical thinking, communication and social participation. In this way students are assisted to develop knowledge, skills and values that will enable them to participate as active and informed citizens in a democratic society and a global community. |
