The learning programme for students in Year 7-10 is
structured according to the Curriculum and Standards Framework,
published by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority. The
teaching pays attention to inclusiveness, and the fact that students
have different ways of learning.
Year 7 and 8
Students study a core of subjects covering the eight learning areas:
Mathematics, English, Technology, Arts, Languages Other Than English
(LOTE - French and Indonesian), Studies of Societies and Environment,
Science and Personal Development (Health, Physical Education). In 2005
students in Year 7 were involved in the SCOPE program—a combination of
English, Science and the Arts.
Years 9
For twenty-seven periods per week, students study a core of subjects
covering eight learning areas. For three periods per week, students
study a term length enrichment unit.
Year 10
Year 10 students study 6 units a semester of five periods each. English
is a compulsory unit each semester and students are expected to
complete at least one unit from each of the other K.L.A’s. Two of these
may be VCE units. Otherwise , students make individual choices from the
units offered.
Year 11 and 12 Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
All students study four units of English. (Units run for one semester
or half a year). Students would then normally select five additional
units per semester at Year 11 and four additional units per semester at
Year 12.
Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VET)
A range of options which are counted towards the VCE are offered to
Years 10, 11 & 12. Current offerings are Hospitality, Equine
Studies and Multimedia.
Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
VCAL is an alternative to the VCE. It has a specific industry workplace focus and involves a work placement.
Literacy and Numeracy
All Year 7 students are tested for Literacy skills in Term 1. Those
needing extra literacy support can be referred to a specific programme
such as "Bridging the Gap" and "Corrective Reading Programme". Due to
our small class sizes , we are well placed to offer individual
assistance to our students. Mathematics skills are tested by the
classroom teacher to establish student needs
Reporting and Assessment
Students are assessed in a variety of ways on how they demonstrate
their achievement of the outcomes set down in each learning programme.
These programmes are developed in accordance with the Curriculum and
Standards Framework document. Brief student progress reports are issued
at the end of Terms One and Three.
Comprehensive
reports are issued at the end of each semester (end of Terms Two and
Four). Parent/teacher interviews are officially held two times per year
and parents are welcome to contact the school at other times if they
have concerns. Parents of Year 7, Year 12 and new students are issued a
specific invitation to the first term Parent-Teacher interviews. |
